Since its discovery 120 years ago, gamma rays were considered invisible. Various pseudo-gamma-ray imaging methods were developed starting in the 1970s and 80s; however, as they did not satisfy the basic principles of geometric optics, their practical use remained extremely limited, and true image measurement remained unrealized. Having advanced our research and development since the 2000s, in 2017, we finally achieved the world's first complete visualization of gamma rays. The following year, we succeeded in the world's first direct imaging observation of galactic center diffuse gamma rays arriving from the Milky Way, achieving a groundbreaking academic result. We made it possible to capture and visualize gamma rays just like an optical camera, realizing the quantitative measurement of radiation using image data.
We named this technology ETCC. We are expanding its field of applications to include the measurement of radioactive waste from nuclear decommissioning, reactor monitoring for abnormality detection, and nuclear security countermeasures. In the medical field, we are applying it to the diagnostic imaging of RI pharmacokinetics. Beyond terrestrial applications, we are extending ETCC’s capabilities to the next frontiers: resource mapping for lunar exploration and plasma control in nuclear fusion reactors. ETCC is an innovative technology leading the 21st century. By driving the social implementation of ETCC, ERRAI Corporation is committed to advancing radiation science—enhancing global safety standards and improve quality of life.
